A Security Analysis of the NTP Protocol
نویسنده
چکیده
The Network Time Protocol is being used throughout the Internet to provide an accurate time service. This note examines the security requirements of such a service, analyzes the NTP protocol to determine how well it meets these requirements, and suggests improvements where appropriate. My comments are in this style(with change bars to the left). They will be gone from the final report, but I do have some questions and/or comments I’d appreciate help on. Of course, all comments, criticisms, and suggestions are always welcome, but these comments are things I’d especially like your thoughts on.

The Security of NTP's Datagram Protocol
For decades, the Network Time Protocol (NTP) has been used to synchronize computer clocks over untrusted network paths. This work takes a new look at the security of NTP’s datagram protocol. We argue that NTP’s datagram protocol in RFC5905 is both underspecified and flawed. The NTP specifications do not sufficiently respect (1) the conflicting security requirements of different NTP modes, and (...
متن کاملSecurity Analysis of the Distance Bounding Protocol Proposed by Jannati and Falahati
In this paper, the security of a distance bounding protocol is analyzed which has been recently proposed by Jannati and Falahati (so-called JF). We prove that an adversary can recover key bits of JF protocol with probability of “1” while the complexity of attack is “2n” runs of protocol. In addition, we propose an improved protocol and prove that the improved protocol is resistant to mafia frau...

As a response to a growing interest in RFID systems such as Internet of Things technology along with satisfying the security of these networks, proposing secure authentication protocols are indispensable part of the system design. Hence, authentication protocols to increase security and privacy in RFID applications have gained much attention in the literature. In this study, security and privac...

Machine to machine (M2M) communication, which is also known as machine type communication (MTC), is one of the most fascinating parts of mobile communication technology and also an important practical application of the Internet of Things. The main objective of this type of communication, is handling massive heterogeneous devices with low network overheads and high security guarantees. Hence, v...

The term "Internet of Things (IoT)" expresses a huge network of smart and connected objects which can interact with other devices without our interposition. Radio frequency identification (RFID) is a great technology and an interesting candidate to provide communications for IoT networks, but numerous security and privacy issues need to be considered. In this paper, we analyze the security and ...
